Long wet season again?

What's going on?...
Based in the mountains with limited infrastructure we are used to power cuts and an internet connection where a pigeon could take a letter faster than email but, this usually happens mostly in the Monsoon season June till October.  Last year the rains started 1st May and during what was the peak rainy season we had hardly any rain?

2008 however has become very weird to say the least.  1st major rain was 20th April which is not unexpected but unexpected when it wont stop!  A few minor floods and today (20th May 2008) it is still raining.

Regardless of who is the culprit for Global climate change it is certainly noticeable here!

What The H***

Inspector Morse investigates..

On a recent trip along the Burma border in North west Thailand we were riding through a desolate region devoid of hardly any traffic and people on a small road cutting through the forests 1230 meters above sea level when we saw the above and had to take a snap.  The truck is pointing in the same direction as we were riding but off road and fallen into a black hole.  We can only assume the driver had stopped for a wee and forget to apply the brakes fully.  No one to be seen anywhere?

Authorities are keen for information please contact them between 1pm and 1:30 pm on any Monday unless they are busy!

Mad Max

Our new big boys toy

Not keen to keep up with the Jones's we have recently took delivery of our new "mad Max' the only truck of it's kind anywhere in the world.  100% home made using bits from Isuzu, Toyota and a 1957 Willys front grill.  Our Thai Friend hand crafted this mini monster truck and we just had to have it!  Full 4 wheel drive system with full differential locks, tractor brakes and no doors.  Built as a recovery truck to pull out bigger trucks stuck in mud this little baby is definitely a go anywhere toy!  In the UK we would probably only make it 2 miles before being pulled by the police but here the police pull us just to take a closer look!

We do plan on taking it on some of our motorcycle tours but not until we have made a few alterations to the body work and added a more weather resistant environment to the cab.

Looking forward to....

November 2008 and our first tour of the season and   This tour came around after our survey tour of he region in 2007.  If you would like to ride our November 2008 tour it is filling up quickly so contact us as soon as possible for reservations

Loy Kratong Festival 2008

Date: On the full moon night of the twelfth lunar month!

Loy Kratong is probably the most picturesque and beautiful of all Thai celebrations. 'Loy' literally means 'to float,' while 'kratong' refers to the lotus-shaped receptacle which can float on the water.  Thousands of people will gather beside the canals and rivers and with kratong in hands, they light the candle, put some coins in the kratong and silently make a wish, and carefully place their kratongs in the water and release them to the current.

Our tours at this time are usually scheduled to coincide with this most beautiful of all Thai festivals
